There are a total of 23 state-supported and private colleges and universities in Virginia that offer undergraduate music performance and music education degree programs for string majors.  Many of these schools also offer Music degrees in a wide array of other concentrations as well as graduate degree programs.

*These universities offer an optional five-year program for Music Education majors that includes the Bachelors of Music Education, Masters of Music Education, and Teacher Licensure.

The following Colleges and Universities have Music programs that offer Undergraduate Music degrees with concentrations  in areas that may include Musicology, Theory, Composition, Music Administration, Music Technology,  and Conducting. Several of these schools also have orchestras or ensembles that are open to students and members of the community.
